Innovation and playfulness are the trademark of Tony Monaco Furniture Design. His style is contemporary, imaginative, and yet perfectly simple in its sophistication. The lines are clean and precise, the joints are flawless, the finishes perfect. His work is very attractive reflecting great craftsmanship and mastery. The artistic nature of Tony's furniture does not detract from its functional qualities as exemplified in his custom-made entertainment units which are models of clever engineering offering ultimate use of space and practicality. He is also a master turner and produces exquisite spindles, bowls and vessels and has created a variety of innovative surfaces for his pieces using pigment lacquers as well as carving, etching and sandblasting techniques.  Not only is Tony a talented designer-craftsman but also an individual who has overcome many odds. Victim of a stroke at age twelve after a football accident, he woke up with a hearing impediment, a semi-paralysed right arm and a challenge he had not bargained for: relearning everything including speech, reading and writing.  Tony trained in furniture design and wood working at Boston University. After school he opened his own shop in Hoboken, New Jersey. He has participated in the International Fair of Contemporary Furniture in New York City several times and his work can be seen in select New York showrooms. His clients include individuals, decorators, architects and artists.
